Frequently Asked Qustions

Answers to some of the most common questions we get.

How much does video production cost?

The question we get asked most often is how much a video will cost.

Several considerations determine the answer, such as:

– If we will we need to film in multiple locations, or just one

– How much time we will need to allow for filming and set-ups

– How many people we need on our crew

– If the edit is straightforward or requires animated elements

– How many videos we will be creating, and their durations.

For animation projects, the costs will depend on:

– The complexity of the animation style (if required)

Over our 30-year history, we’ve worked with clients with a range of varied budgets, so please contact us and we’ll find a solution and provide you with a quote.

What goes into producing a video?

Just like every business is different, most video projects are going to be different. The video production process typically involves three key stages, including pre-production, production and post-production.

    1. Pre-Production

Pre-Production involves planning the concept, scripting, storyboarding, casting, location scouting, and organising licenses and logistics such as parking, travel and accommodation (if required). Typically, we will meet with you either online or in person to discuss your objectives and define what you need from your video. We will ask you who your target audience is, the key messages, the call to action, and the platform your video will use (i.e., web/event). We will then write a script (if required) and a proposed schedule for filming and editing.

    1. Production

Production involves filming the video using professional equipment, directing talent, capturing high-quality audio and visuals, and ensuring all planned shots are executed effectively.

Our crew will arrive at the location you need (i.e., your place of business, a studio, or your customer’s place of work) and capture the required footage. We will typically film interviews, general shots of your workplace, event footage or product demonstrations. We can also use drones for aerial shots if required.

  1. Post-Production

Once we have filmed everything, we will digitise the footage into our editing system and start crafting it together, adding voiceovers, music, simple titles and graphics as requested. We will send you online files to review various drafts, so you have opportunities throughout the process to give your feedback and revision notes before we lock the edit and master the final video. We will then deliver you a file via a secure platform for you to download.

How many people are involved in the filming process?

How many people we need on a crew depends on the job’s size or complexity. For videos where we are using interviews and b-roll footage, we will typically send one videographer on the shoot to film and record sound, capturing all the necessary material for the video.

Sometimes a job will require two or three crew. For example, we may send a videographer as well as a director who will also bring a second camera kit with full lighting and sound recording equipment. While the principal videographer will focus on all the visual and technical aspects, the director will conduct the interviews and provide additional angles of shots to be used to cut between in the edit.

A drone videography operator will also be attached to the crew if the video requires aerial footage.

How much client involvement is needed when making a video?

We start by scheduling a phone call or online meeting, or providing some questions on email to understand your project requirements. From there, our clients will typically be involved in the planning of the talent (ie: people being interviewed or filmed), will have the opportunity to revise scripts and give edit feedback once in post-production. No matter your level of input, we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

For animation projects, we collaborate with you to define key messages before developing a draft script and suggested visual style for review. Alternatively, if you have a complete script or storyboard, we’re also happy to work from that.

How do you handle graphics and branding?

We can create simple graphics, use ones provided by you, animate logos and created infographics as required. Our aim is always to keep your branding professional and impactful.

Do you include voiceovers and music?

Not all projects require a voiceover, but if yours does, we offer a selection of professional voiceover samples for you to choose from and handle the rest. We source high-quality tracks from royalty-free music libraries for background music and provide the necessary licensing to use in your final video.

Can you add subtitles to videos?

Yes! We can provide both versions with and without subtitles, giving you the flexibility to choose how your audience experiences your video.

What kind of equipment do you use?

We use professional broadcast-quality 4K video cameras, along with professional sound recording equipment and radio microphones, advanced lighting set-ups, and green screens when needed.

How will I receive my video?

We typically deliver finished videos in .mp4 or .mov, the most widely used formats. However, if you need a different format, we’re happy to convert it.

Will you keep all the footage from my video shoot?

We archive backup copies of footage and project files, ensuring easy access for future updates, such as branding changes or content revisions. Archiving your material does not incur any charges.

When do I pay for the video?

Once we have sent you a quote and you are happy to proceed with the project, we will send you a 30% deposit invoice due on receipt. This payment allows us to lock in the project and book the required crew and travel expenses as required. Depending on the size of the project, we may require an additional 30% payment after filming and a final invoice once we have completed and delivered your video.

Can you film outside of Melbourne?

While our production office is based in Melbourne, we love filming all over Australia, so we can provide our services in all locations across the country. We also have allied crew in various cities, so can organise videographers wherever you are located.
